Hurricane Ike
September 9, 2008 (Tuesday)
I will be in Rockport today to conduct the funeral for Mrs. Dorris Hill, a lady who, in good times and bad, was never without her smile and her sweet spirit.
The last report on Hurricane Ike last night showed the possibility of hitting the Corpus Christi area as a category 3 storm on Saturday. The meteorologist was quick to point out that the five-day forecasts rarely hold true because so much can change in that period of time, so he was venturing a guess that the landfall might take place somewhere south of Corpus. Looks like we will be boarding up the house and hoping for the best this week. It has been many years since a major storm has hit the area.
It was business as usual last evening when I filled up my gas tank and when Dwight went to the grocery store. I’m sure there will be a lot of activity today and the next several days as people keep an eye out on the storm that seems to be headed this way. When we started out Monday morning, the target of landfall was Galveston Bay, then Matagorda Bay as the day went on, and at 10 p.m. it had shifted to this area.
It’s time to quote a favorite scripture: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV).
