Miscellaneous thoughts
September 8, 2008 (Monday)
Last Sunday the Timbergrove Baptist Church honored me for preaching 60 years, and Saturday I received a parcel from the Coed 56 Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church of Rockport, containing several items of appreciation for me on this personal anniversary. I thank the class as well as the churches for their great generosity and kindness to me on this occasion. To each of you who reads this, “Thank you,” and please pass along my thanks to all those who participated in these expressions of kindness to an old preacher.
Hurricane Ike will do a lot of damage in Cuba and perhaps the Florida Keys, it seems, and then launch out into the Gulf of Mexico, where most models show it headed toward the western Gulf coast. The next few days will tell the story much more clearly and by this time next week the storm will have left its mark. If it comes your way, may you remain safe.
The primary elections are done, the conventions are over, and in 57 days we will have elected a new president. At least, that’s the plan. Remember the election when the final result had to come from the Supreme Court? Let’s hope we have a clear winner this time, whoever it may turn out to be. When we pray for our country, let us pray for God’s will to be done.
