Mothers Day 2022

Today is Mother’s Day.
Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers reading this.

Julia Ward Howe, writer of the lyrics of “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” issued a “Mother’s Day Proclamation” in 1870, calling upon mothers to unite in the cause of peace in the world. In 1907, Anna M. Jarvis, a schoolteacher from Philadelphia, lobbied for “Mother’s Day” as a national holiday honoring the mothers of our nation. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1914 which made Mother’s Day a special observance the second Sunday of May each year.

Those whose mothers are still living will do something special to honor them on this day. Those of us whose mothers are no longer with us will find this day full of memories of days gone by.

“Honor your father and your mother” is the Fifth Commandment. It is a bridge between “Honor God” and “Respect People.” When the home is strong the world is stable. Whatever strengthens the homes of our land is good for the society as a whole. We honor our mothers on this special day, because to do so is to honor God, who established the family as the basic unit of humanity’s institutions.

”M” is for the million things she gave me
“O” means only that she’s growing old
“T” is for the tears she shed to save me
“H” is for her heart of purest gold
“E” is for her eyes with love-light shining
“R” means right and right she’ll always be
Put them all together they spell MOTHER,
A word that means the world to me.
