In the Garden

Theme this week: Walking with the Lord

October 26, 2021 (Tuesday)

When Mary Magdalene went to the tomb of Jesus to anoint His body, she was surprised by the Lord Jesus, who had risen from the dead. This song, “In the Garden,” is remembered for its words, “He walks with me and He talks with me.” That was the literal experience of Mary Magdalene, whose life had been changed by the power of the Savior.

Jesus has made a promise to you and me: “I will be with you always, even to the end of the age.” He said, “I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.” He has kept that promise because His Holy Spirit never leaves us. God is always with us through the Holy Spirit, who lives within each believer. He really does live within us who have accepted Christ as our Savior. He will never leave us. As the song says, “He walks with me and He talks with me.” While some say they have heard an audible voice, most of us rely on the presence and power of the Lord in our hearts, making Himself known to us every moment of every day. Let us never grieve Him, but let us walk closely to Him, rejoicing in His presence every day. Jesus, through the Spirit, walks with us and speaks to our heart daily. Let us always walk with Him.

In the Garden
Charles A. Miles
1913

I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

I’d stay in the garden with Him,
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
