Are You A Blessing?

Lately, we have awakened to many extra special days. Yesterday was a special day–the very first day of a brand new year. The day before that was also very special–the very last day of an entire year and the eve of a new one. These two special days were following the special days of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, just one week before. But we have come down to this: January 2. What’s so special about January 2? Is it just another day? It can be, but it can also be a great day, if we follow a popular suggestion, “Go out and make it a great day!”
Try surprising someone with a broad smile and a kind “Hello.” You may surprise yourself in the process, discovering that you really are a friendly soul. In addition, you may “make someone’s day.” Try looking for sad people, finding something about them you can compliment, and letting yourself say it. You will be glad you did, even if you don’t elicit a favorable response, which is highly unlikely.
One cynical person complained, “Don’t tell me what kind of day to have!” when told to “have a nice day.” I’ll betcha you have not had such an experience because down deep most people are pretty nice. Many of them are sad and lonely, and a kind word might just “make their day.” (And, hey, these suggestions apply to coworkers and family members, too).
January 2–it’s not Christmas or New Year’s Day, but it can be a great day. It probably does not have to be a bad day. It’s up to us. May the Lord bless you and make you a blessing.
