Belong?

Do you recognize this verse from a song on Sesame Street?

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn’t belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

The song teaches children to think on a high level. It helps teach them skills of analysis and evaluation so that they may make informed decisions in life.
Here’s how the Apostle John applied this idea: “..we can tell who is a child of God and who belongs to Satan. Whoever is living a life of sin and doesn’t love his brother shows that he is not in God’s family” (1 John 3:10 TLB). (Not like the others).
Christians sometimes sin. When they do, they regret it. They repent, ask for forgiveness, and want to live righteously. The person “living a life of sin” (John’s words above) is not living like a true Christian. His sin is his way of life, not an occasional misstep. His life shows he is “not like the others.”
Christians identify themselves by the way they live from day to day.

Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do,
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
