Mail Onllne reports, “Selfie has been named the word of 2013, beating tough competition from twerk, binge-watch and showrooming. Editors from Oxford Dictionaries, which made it their Word of 2013, said the word has evolved from a niche social media tag into a mainstream term for a self-portrait photograph.”
When I take a picture of myself, that makes me the whole story. I am the photographer and the subject, all in one.
There were no cameras around when the Apostle Paul went everywhere preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. If there had been such in his day, it is doubtful he would have made a “selfie.” I say that because of what he said: “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20 NLT).
In saying those words, Paul was obeying the Lord Jesus Christ who invited us to follow Him with this call: “If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24 NLT).
Somehow I just cannot imagine either Jesus or Paul making a “selfie,” unless in some way the picture would glorify our Father in Heaven.
Having said all that, from January, 2004 here is MY SELFIE:
