Pray and Help

November 8, 2012 (Thursday)
”picMany of our fellow citizens, some of whom may be friends or family of those who are reading this, are facing a new storm on the heels of a very bad one in the Northeast. Snow is falling, along with a cold rain, and winds are raging, compounding the suffering of people who have lost their homes and/or belongings, and have no electrical power or gasoline to run their generators if they have them. Many are enduring very cold weather with no way to heat their homes. Others have no home to heat. If we are casting about in our minds for something we can do for them, let’s not forget to pray. Misery is made even worse by worsening weather. Let us pray for those affected by these storms.
Let us do what we can to help others in distress. It goes without saying that we should pray for them. We can also help in other ways.
James put it this way: “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 4:15-17 NIV).
