The states
The blogs this week follow a patriotic theme.
July 3, 2012 (Tuesday)
We all know that The United States of America now has 50 states. Here’s a little quiz about them:
1. Which state has the largest population?
2. Which state has the smallest population?
3. Which state occupies the smallest space?
4. Which state occupies the most space?
5. Which state was purchased from Russia for 2 cents per acre?
6. Which state is known as the “Lone Star State?” (deportation if you miss this).
7. Which state was once an independent nation?
8. Which state once hosted the nation’s capital city?
9. Which state is known as “the birthplace of a nation?”
10. Which state has the most miles of river?
These ten questions do not begin to scratch the surface of the questions that could be asked about the states in this wonderful country. Just thinking about this subject makes us realize in a new and fresh way what a marvelous place our country is. We sing, “From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam..God bless America, my home, sweet home.”
The country is varied in topography, in customs, in history, in ethnic makeup, in national origin of its people, and in so many other ways.
The more you think about your country this week, the more you want to love it. “America, America, God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.”
