Good for you
July 27, 2011 (Wednesday)
Yesterday’s blog was about eating healthy foods, more or less. It wasn’t exactly about that, hence the “more or less.” The other aspect of healthy living that gets a lot of attention is “exercise.”
My “exercise” is usually walking, and I do that either in Memorial Park or at the Rockport Beach. Both are excellent places to walk. Lately, however, it’s been difficult to find a time of day when it’s not too hot to walk. So I’ve been using some of the exercise equipment that Wanda bought for me as she tried to encourage me to get healthy. One of these is a stationary bicycle, which can be adjusted to various resistances, simulating some road conditions like going up a hill. I usually keep it on the easiest setting, because of my unpredictable knees, which sometimes act up if stressed. After the bike, I go to the rowing machine, and then to the “stepper.” There is a glider here, too, but it’s in another room and by the time I get to that one, I’m already done. It’s really the hardest one for me.
I’ll be glad when the temperatures drop. I still walk now and then, but I stay inside if possible. One thing I miss about Houston are the walks with my friend, Leroy, in the mall. It always had just the right temperature and humidity.
Anyway, exercise makes me hungry. So I don’t think it’s as good as it’s claimed to be in weight loss. Think I’ll have a snack.
