Many are available

Once upon a time, people ate tasty delights between meals, but there were none of the modern snacks available. They ate things like grapes, figs, or apples. In the 1800’s in America, commercially prepared foods became snacks. Popcorn was one of the first of these. Lots of salt and sugar characterizes modern snacks.
Do you like Norman Rockwell paintings? I do. I love them. One thing I’ve noticed about the people in his paintings. Most of them were very thin. Skinny. But they were normal, because that’s the way people used to look in this country.
I can’t help but notice the children nowadays. Many of them are overweight, and some of them are so heavy they have a hard time getting around. This is the result of the way we eat.
I’m no exception. I was so glad to lose a lot of weight in 2009. I’ve managed somehow to keep from going all the way back to where I was before losing weight, but I have regained many of my excess pounds. It’s a tough fight. I told myself that as I ate my cheese-coated tortilla chips and corn chips for supper yesterday.
Now where did I put those grapes and apples? I know they’re around here somewhere.
