Just Cannot Discard It

May 20, 2020 (Wednesday)

Uh oh, I let a special day get by without calling attention to it. It took place on Monday and is “Pack Rat Day!” If you are like me and find it almost impossible to get rid of things you no longer need or use (but might need or use some day), then this is your day. Too bad we missed celebrating May 17. Oh, well, maybe we will remember next year. But we can’t let it go by without mentioning it, even in retrospect.

My goodness, look what I found in the back of the closet: my old sweater. It kept me warm for many winters. I need it. I just can’t part with it now, even though I have not thought about it for five years or more.

And what about those old vinyl records? Surely they will be collectors’ items and worth something one of these days. Oh, oh, oh..you should not have let me look in the attic. Everything up there is a treasure. Of course, I cannot tell you what’s there, but it must be valuable or I would not have kept it these 50 years!

What’s that? You would like to help me dispose of this junk? Really? You may have good intentions, but it’s not gonna happen.

I’ve got a bad attitude, you say? What’s that? I should read Matthew 6 again? OK, here goes: “.. the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Well, I suppose He is telling me that “things” are just “things” and don’t really matter. I need to get rid of whatever might hinder my love for the Lord and my service to Him. Concentrating on material things sets a bad example. I will think about it.

ALL THAT THRILLS MY SOUL
Thoro Harris
1917

Who can cheer the heart like Jesus
By His presence all divine
True and tender, pure and precious
O, how blest to call Him mine

Chorus
All that thrills my soul is Jesus
He is more than life to me
And the fairest of ten thousand
In my blessed Lord I see

Love of Christ so freely given
Grace of God beyond degree
Mercy higher than the heavens
Deeper than the deepest sea
Chorus

What a wonderful redemption
Never can a mortal know
How my sin, though red like crimson
Can be whiter than the snow
Chorus

Every need His hand supplying
Every good in Him I see
On His strength divine relying
He is all in all to me
Chorus

By the crystal flowing river
With the ransomed I will sing
And forever and forever
Praise and glorify the King
Chorus
