A busy day

Serving the Lord

September 3, 2010 (Friday)
”picI remember a song from bygone days, entitled, “Little Man, You’ve Had a Busy Day.” When I went to bed Wednesday night, I couldn’t help but think of that song. My day began at 5:30 when the alarm sounded. I made breakfast, took my many pills, enjoyed my coffee, caught up on the news via the internet, and wrote my blog for the day. I was at the hospital at 7:50 a.m. to be with the Washburn family and have prayer with Leroy before he went into surgery to have a pacemaker installed. The doctor came out after the surgery at around 10:30 and told us that the surgery went well and Leroy will be feeling much better in the days ahead. I got back home around 11:00 a.m., boiled an egg and made myself a mighty good tuna fish sandwich on a healthy-type bread (1,000 grains or something), donned my ministerial attire (my old blue suit) and drove to the Forest Park Funeral Home Mausoleum and Cemetery on Westheimer and Dairy Ashford, arriving there around 1:30. At 2:00 p.m. I conducted a funeral service for Janet Ray’s mother, who recently died. At 3:30, I left the cemetery to go back home and change clothes again (my suit was drenched with perspiration from my being in the heat at the cemetery), back to less formal dress and by 4:45 I was at the restaurant where Troy, Ruth and I always have a bite to eat before the Wednesday evening worship service at the church. Following our meal, I made a quick trip by the house to pick up my Bible and brush my teeth, and by 5:50 was at the church for the mid-week worship. Afterwards, I went back home. It was a little after 7:00 p.m. and I had been on the go for almost 14 hours. Now that’s a busy day for a guy who’ll be 79 in three weeks. I’ll never forget my wonderful retirement party in 1996. Retirement is great! At least that’s what they say. At this point you’re supposed to rub your thumb and index finger together as the world’s smallest violin.
