Storms in a line

Natural this time of year

September 2, 2010 (Thursday)
”picDanielle, then Earl, then Fiona, now Gaston, and soon, Hermine. Wow, what a list. The storms are lining up one after the other.
Where will they go? What will they do?
Remember the line from “Fiddler on the Roof?” They asked the Rabbi if he had a prayer for the Czar, and the Rabbi offered the prayer, “Lord keep the Czar…far away from here!” I suppose that’s our prayer for each of the hurricanes and others to come.
These storms are natural occurrences and sooner or later will hit almost every place on the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. The waters of the Gulf are littered with the remains of ships sunk by storms. Perhaps some of them hold great treasure. Towns have disappeared as a result of storms. Remember St. Mary’s? It used to be on Mission Bay, but it is now “gone with the wind.” Remember “Indianola?” It’s gone, too.
Hopefully we will be spared, but that’s not assured. If a storm comes, it comes. Our part is to prepare as best we can and remember that saving lives is the most important consideration. Do whatever it takes to do that, please, and I’ll do the same.
