Radio jingles

and hot cereals

”pic In one of my blogs this week I mentioned the “Let’s Pretend” radio program I heard when I was a child.
Do you remember the name of the sponsor for that program?
Do you remember the jingle that was broadcast at the beginning of the program?
Here’s the jingle in case you don’t recall (the music will probably come to you as you read the words):

“Cream of Wheat is so good to eat
That we have it every day.
It makes us strong
So we sing this song
It makes us shout ‘Hooray!’
It’s good for growing children
And grown-ups too to eat.
For all the family’s breakfast
You can’t beat Cream of Wheat!”

Cream of Wheat is still sold in grocery stores today. Now that’s a long time for such a product. It was invented in 1893. A similar product, Malt-O-Meal,” became a competitor from a company founded in 1919. Malt-O-Meal was promoted on the radio, but I don’t recall a regularly scheduled program like “Let’s Pretend” having it as a sponsor.
How many of those old radio (and later, TV) jingles can you recall? The first one that pops into my mind is, “Pepsi Cola hits the spot…”
