I have been retired 14 years

Or have I?

August 26, 2010 (Thursday)
”picLast night I resigned as pastor of Timbergrove Baptist Church in Houston. I will be moving back to Rockport. Troy and Ruth Conner, Music Director and Pianist, also resigned. They had been with the church more than 18 years; I had been pastor since 2004, except for an absence of 18 months at Rockport FBC as Interim Pastor. September 5 will be our last Sunday with the church.
Since my retirement in 1996, I have served as Interim Pastor or Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Refugio, twice for a total of 22 months, the Bethel Baptist Church of Ingleside, 16 months, the First Baptist Church of Rockport, 18 months, and Timbergrove Baptist Church, Houston, twice for a total of 4 years, 8 months. I will be 79 years old in a few weeks, so maybe now I will actually retire.
I remember Brother Walstad, a retired minister at Rockport, telling me that although he was retired from preaching, the Lord kept filling him with sermons. “He keeps feeding it in,” he said. The gospel messaqe was like a fire within him, and he longed to preach. I have been very fortunate in having places to preach where I was needed and wanted. Very fortunate, indeed.
Hollis Davenport made me a beautiful fishing rod and attached a splendid reel for bringing in those Trout and Redfish at Rockport. Perhaps now I will get that hook wet.
