The song, “I’ll Pray for You,” sung by Wes Hampton, is new to me, but I see it as a realistic song about grief. The words of this song express sympathy for someone who is hurting, and identifies with their pain using the words, “I’ve been there right where you are: heart is so broken, God is so far.” These are the feelings of grief and sorrow, and they are real. We do ourselves no favor when we deny our true feelings. The words of this song are spoken to a person who is experiencing real pain. Their loss is real; their pain is real also. As the song describes that pain, “sleep won’t come, and tears won’t quit; you can’t think, can’t even pray.” Until you can pray, I’ll pray for you. This is a song that encourages us to be honest with ourselves so that we can be helpful to others.
Most people eventually arrive at a place where they begin to find answers, and the person seeking to comfort a person dealing with emotional suffering gently reminds him/her that “answers will come, but until they do, I’ll pray for you.”

I’ve been there right where you are,
Heart so broken, God is so far
Sleep won’t come and tears won’t quit
Can you remember, I won’t forget
When you can’t think, you can’t even pray
Please hear me when I say
You may not have the words, but until you do
I’ll pray for you
Till clouds clear and you start to see.
I’ll be here down on my knees
Just hold on to one thing that’s true
All this time he’s holding you
When you can’t think, you can’t even pray
Please hear me when I say
You may not have the words, but until you do
I’ll pray for you
Answers will come, but until they do
I’ll pray for you, I’ll pray for you
