Fairest Lord Jesus

January 29, 2020 (Wednesday)

I was in the 8th grade at John Marshall Junior High School in Houston and was in a required music class when I became acquainted with this hymn. We learned it and performed it for the student body. It is a song that glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He is described as “ruler of all nature, both human and divine, and one to be cherished and honored. He is the singer’s glory, joy and crown. The inspiration of His beautiful life exceeds that of spring in its glory. He has a brightness in Heaven that outshines the angels and exceeds that of the sun, moon and stars. He is Lord of all nations and worthy of our honor, praise and adoration.

FAIREST LORD JESUS
Words: Anonymous German Hymn
Music: Schlesische Vokslieder; arr. Richard Storrs Willis

Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature,
O Thou of God and man the Son;
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
Robed in the blooming garb of spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight
And all the twinkling, starry host;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heaven can boast.

Beautiful Savior, Lord of all nations,
Son of God and Son of man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be Thine!
