December

A significant month

November 30, 2009 (Monday)
picture of CharlesSuddenly it’s December again. Halloween and Thanksgiving are behind us, and the Christmas season has arrived, with special programs on T.V. and decorations in all the stores as well as some public places. Carols are being played on the radio, and merchants are crossing their fingers in the hope of a better-than-expected shopping season. “Black Friday” will be followed by “Cyber Monday” and everyone hopes for a good year in spite of a weak economy.
The first week of December sometimes brings cold temperatures and cloudy, wet skies. That seems to be the case this year. It will be cold today and colder tomorrow in South and Southeast Texas. Lots of rain may fall. Of course, mild weather will follow and in this part of the country we may be running our air conditioners in a few days. Oh, well, the weather always gives us something to talk about. The folks in Rockport will be talking about the “white Christmas” of a few years back for years to come.
Amidst the talk of weather and shopping, let’s not forget the “reason for the season.” In our own hearts let us think about Jesus. Let us meditate upon God’s infinite love for all the people of this world. Let us let our minds dwell on the manger of Bethlehem that led to the cross of Calvary. Let us get into the spirit of the season by doing something to bless others and going out of our way to do at least one kind deed. How thankful we are for the many who spend a great part of their time in projects that help people. God loved..God gave. He wants us to love and give too.
