Christ Calls

“Come to me”

picture of CharlesJesus is calling all of us to find rest in him from our burdens and weariness. Here’s his call: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NIV).
His call is personal, from himself to each of us. God says in Isaiah, “I have called you by your name.” That’s still the way he calls. His message of hope is intended for you, whoever you are. He knows who and where you are, and how much you need him in your life.
His call is made in love. He has no reason to offer you his blessings other than his love for you. The people to whom he was directly speaking were burdened by their religion, because it was a system of so many laws they couldn’t keep track of them. Jesus offered his “yoke” which meant he wanted them to let him be their teacher because his yoke was “easy” and his burden, “light.” He offers joy and peace, not additional rules to keep.
His call should bring a response of action. “Come to me” means we need to go to him, in faith, trusting him completely for salvation and daily strength. He wants us to come to him just as we are, because his love for each of us is unconditional.
Jesus says, “I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29 NIV). You can find real help in him today. He loves you.
