Bigger

Better?

picture of CharlesHouston and Dallas each has a stadium that ranks among the best in the world. But giant arenas do not win games.
Houston’s team wore special red uniforms at their last game, and the crowd joined them in wearing red. It did not intimidate their opponents, however, and they didn’t win the game.
A stadium or a uniform, or great cheerleaders, a world-class scoreboard, or any of the other exciting things that stir interest and build attendance cannot win games. That’s up to the team members.
Similarly, churches sometimes seem to place emphasis on buildings, activities, budgets, exciting events, etc. instead of concentrating on the basics of faith and Christian living. What we as Christians believe, how we control ourselves and how we treat others are far more important than any of the things that grab headlines.
Nothing wrong with bigger and better buildings for football, but the team is what counts. And there’s nothing wrong with bigger and better when it comes to the church, but it is faith and action by the members that count for Christ.
