The Cross of Redemption

Mercy there is great and grace is free

picture of CharlesThis is known as “Holy Week” among Christians throughout the world. We remember the last week of Jesus’ earthly life, especially Friday, when He was crucified, and the following Sunday, when He rose from the dead.
Three people were crucified — two for their own sins, one for the sins of others. The man on one cross rejected Jesus, the one on the other received Christ as Savior. Jesus died on the Cross of Redemption. The Cross of Redemption is where Good and Evil clash. It was the scene of a gigantic battle. It was a fight between Positive and Negative, Goodness and Sin. It all took place at the Cross, where Jesus met Evil head on and purchased redemption for us with His own precious blood. He died in our place. He won the battle for us, saying, “Now the prince of this world will be driven out, but I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself” (John 12:31-32).
The Cross of Redemption is where Justice and Mercy meet. Christ satisfied all the claims of justice by paying the price for our sins, and He shows us mercy by forgiving us. “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). God required sacrifice for sins, and He provided that sacrifice in the person of His own dear Son. Jesus Christ willingly gave Himself for us.
The Cross of Redemption is where God meets us. “At the Cross, at the Cross, where I first saw the light, and the burden of my heart rolled away, it was there by faith I received my sight and now I am happy all the day.” “There’s room at the Cross for you, there’s room at the Cross for you. Though millions have come, there’s still room for one. Yes, there’s room at the Cross for you.”
Take time each day this week to think about how much Jesus loves you, and how you can express your love for Him.
