“Good news must be told!”
August 24, 2008 (Sunday)
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8 NIV).
Christian witnessing is natural. Something good has happened in our lives and good news must be told. We can witness by our attitude, by doing the right thing, by inviting people to church, and, when the opportunity presents itself, by sharing God’s plan of salvation for all people. Opportunities to witness are available to people who are available to the Lord.
Christian witnessing is my responsibility as a Christian. Jesus expects us Christians to tell people about Him. We love Him, and we don’t want to let Him down. We can make a difference in this world for Christ, as we witness with our life and with our words.
Christian witnessing helps me to grow spiritually. Whenever we interact with someone in conversation about Jesus, it excites us, reminding us of the basics of our faith. The more we do it, the stronger we become, spiritually. Just as people hone their skills in their professions by consistent rehearsal and practice, so the habit of talking with others about Christ strengthens us who do it. The consistent witness develops strong convictions about his (or her) beliefs, maturing in insight and wisdom.
When Jesus said we would become His witnesses, He was talking about all His followers, including you and me. What a wonderful privilege He has given us.
