We Obey God’s Love by Loving

Pre-Easter Theme: What Jesus Taught Us

Theme for this week: We Can Love God

When Jesus answered the question, “Which is the greatest commandment,” He replied with two: Love God, Love Others. During His final visit with His disciples in the upper room, hours before His crucifixion, He told them, “My final commandment to you is, “Love One Another.” “Love God; love one another” are like two sides of a coin; they go together. As the hymn says, “Love is the Theme.”

The Ten Commandments give us a basis for all morality. The first four commandments tell us to love God, Commandments six through ten tell us to love others. Commandment number five is a bridge between loving God and loving one another because it tells us to love and obey our parents. The home is where we should learn to love God and our fellow human beings. The Ten Commandments cover all the bases for successful living and we should learn to obey them in the home.

Since “Love God – Love Each Other” is shorthand for The Ten Commandments, it is safe to say that obedience to the Ten Commandments means Obedience to God’s Love. We obey His love by becoming loving people, which is a statement that sums up the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ.

LOVING GOD, LOVING EACH OTHER
by Bill and Gloria Gaither

Loving God, loving each other,
Making music with my friends,
Loving God, loving each other
And the story never ends.

They pushed back from the table
And listened to His word,
His secret plan before He had to go.
It’s not complicated,
Don’t need a lot of rules.
This is all you need to know:
Loving God, loving each other,
Making music with my friends,
Loving God, loving each other
And our story never ends.

We tend to make it harder
Build steeples out of stone,
Fill books with explanations of the Way
But if we stop and listen
And break a little bread
We could hear the Master say
Loving God, loving each other,
Making music with my friends,
Loving God, loving each other
And the story never ends.
