We Can Demonstrate Our Love

Pre-Easter Theme: What Jesus Taught Us

Theme for this week: God Loves Us

March 18, 2022 (Friday)

I heard a preacher say, as he was bragging about his ministry, “He that tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted!” Of course, it was all in fun, but did you know that Jesus encouraged us to let others know about our relationship with Christ and our deeds of service? Here is the scripture reference:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16 ESV).

Jesus wants us to glorify Him. Of course, he was not encouraging us to brag about our good deeds, but he was encouraging us to let others know the source of our love for them. A young man who worked as a lumberjack was led to Christ. As he prepared to return to the woods and the company of lumberjacks, most of whom were not Christians, he asked for prayer, because he was certain he would become the object of scorn among his coworkers. Later, as he returned home, he was asked if he had been ridiculed for being a Christian. His reply: “No. They never found out!”

In Matthew 5, Jesus encouraged us to “let our lights shine” for Him. He said in essence: “You are Light! Shine!”

Let’s take a look at an everyday example: the light bulb in your home. It no longer shines. It is “burned out.” So, what do we do with it? Do we build a form for it and display it on our mantle? No, no, no. We throw it away. It has fulfilled its purpose. It must be replaced with a fresh light bulb. Let’s think about this situation reflected in the teaching of Jesus that we are lights in a dark world. We have a function: “Shine!” If we fail to shine, we have lost our purpose. Our reason for living is gone. Sad to say, there are Christian people who feel this way about themselves. Stop it. Become the new bulb. Shine. Let others see Jesus in you!

Let them see the fruit of God’s Spirit within you: “Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.” Shine for Jesus!

JESUS IS ALL THE WORLD TO ME
Author, Will L. Thompson

1. Jesus is all the world to me,
My life, my joy, my all;
He is my strength from day to day,
Without Him I would fall:
When I am sad, to Him I go;
No other one can cheer me so;
When I am sad, He makes me glad;
He’s my friend.

2. Jesus is all the world to me,
My friend in trials sore;
I go to Him for blessings, and
He gives them o’er and o’er:
He sends the sunshine and the rain,
He sends the harvest’s golden grain;
Sunshine and rain, harvest of grain,
He’s my friend.

(See below — Jesus, Jesus, Jesus…)

3. Jesus is all the world to me,
And true to Him I’ll be;
O how could I this friend deny,
When He’s so true to me?
Following Him I know I’m right,
He watches o’er me day and night;
Following Him by day and night;
He’s my friend.

4. Jesus is all the world to me,
I want no better friend;
I trust Him now, I’ll trust Him when
Life’s fleeting days shall end:
Beautiful life with such a friend,
Beautiful life that has no end;
Eternal life, eternal joy;
He’s my friend.
