Bob and Charlene Lawrence

Dale Pogue wrote a blog this week about Bob and Charlene Lawrence. If I may, I’d like to do that, too.
Charlene was a wonderful cook and on several occasions invited Wanda and me to their home in Woody Acres when they were here in Rockport for the winter months. Charlene was a great cook and the meals were absolutely out of this world good.

Occasionally Bob and Charlene would present special music and it was always great. They both tackled music like they did everything else; they gave it all they had in energy and enthusiasm. Charlene appeared frail but when she struck those keys, believe me, those keys knew somebody strong was in charge. And Bob sang the same way. No timid and shy presentations for them. What a joy to hear them.
Their interest in Colorado and the Western states began with a mission trip when Bob was on the staff of the First Baptist Church of Hereford. From that first taste of mission work Bob and Charlene developed a strong taste for the work, and soon moved there and gave it their full time. Bob’s responsibilities grew until he was working in Montana and Wyoming as well as Colorado. The couple was well-known in mission circles as exceptional leaders.

They hosted us at their Woody Acres home in the winter, and in their Colorado home in the summer. Actually Wanda and I made only one trip to Colorado to see them. We followed the Pogue’s example and got a motor home and all of us went to visit the Lawrence’s. Wanda and I came back to Rockport afterwards, but the Pogues journeyed on as they did each year, seeing this wonderful country and experiencing it as well.

The Lawrence’s had two spots in their back yard that would accomodate RV’s. We used them both that week. What hospitality. They served us meals, took us on tours, and introduced us to the people of that area. What gracious people they were. If I understand 1 Thessalonians 4 correctly, we will see them again in Heaven.
