Theme for this week: “Its Your Time”
The Apostle Paul, in his second letter to the Corinthians, quoted a verse from the Old Testament in which God promised a time of loving acceptance and a day of salvation. Then he told them, “Now is the time of that loving acceptance and today is the day of salvation.” The “day” is not a 24-hour experience, it is the marvelous era in which we now live, in which through faith in Christ, we experience His grace that saves us eternally.
The “Day of Salvation” is the present time in which we all are living. It will come to a close for each of us, either when we die or when Jesus returns to the earth in glory. In the meantime, the gift of salvation is offered to everyone who will accept it. If you have not yet accepted Christ as your Savior, then you can be saved this very day. This is the day of your salvation if you receive Christ into your heart as your Savior and Lord.
In the Bible book of Acts, chapter 16, verse 31, we are told how to be saved. Misionaries Paul and Silas were in prison in Philippi, but they sang and prayed and were overheard by the jailer, a Roman soldier. Suddenly there was an earthquake and the gates of the prison were opened. The jailer, thinking his prisoners had escaped, knew his fate was execution if that was so, and he drew his sword to commit suicide. “Don’t harm yourself,” Paul called to him. “We are all here.” The jailer’s response was this:”Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” This was Paul’s reply: “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” He believed, invited Paul and Silas into his home where his family and servants also believed and were saved.
If you have ever wondered about how to have assurance of eternal life, then the answer for you is the same as Paul’s answer to the jailer: “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” God loves you. Christ died and rose again for you. You are invited to give your heart to Jesus. It’s time for you to be saved. Paul later wrote, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ” (Romans 10:9 NIV).
JESUS, I COME
Words, William T. Sleeper
Music, George C. Stebbins
1887
Out of my bondage, sorrow and night,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into thy freedom, gladness, and light,
Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of my sickness into thy health,
Out of my want and into thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into thyself,
Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the glorious gain of thy cross,
Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of earth’s sorrows into thy balm,
Out of life’s storms and into thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into thy blessed will to abide,
Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of my self to dwell in thy love,
Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the joy and light of thy home,
Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of the depths of ruin untold,
Into the peace of thy sheltering fold,
Ever thy glorious face to behold,
Jesus, I come to thee.
