The word, “Beulah,” means “married,” and is found in Isaiah 62:4. It is used to symbolize a blessed state of being for God’s people. We have 13 hymns about Beulah Land, and they emphasize eternal life as a quality of life both present and future. I think many if not most of us have come to think of “Beulah Land” as Heaven, and that’s what it means in this song, “Sweet Beulah Land.”
SWEET BEULAH LAND Squire Parsons 1973 I’m kind of homesick for a country To which I’ve never been before. No sad goodbyes will there be spoken For time won’t matter anymore. Beulah Land I’m longing for you And some day on thee I’ll stand There my home shall be eternal Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land I’m looking now, just across the river To where my faith, shall end in sight There’s just a few more days to labor. Then I will take my heavenly flight. Beulah Land I’m longing for you And some day on thee I’ll stand There my home shall be eternal Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land Beulah Land, oh it’s Beulah Land Oh Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land |
