Thankful for Church Family

Theme: Thanksgiving Week

November 24, 2021 (Wednesday)

Once again we enter the Upper Room where Jesus is meeting with his disciples. He washes their feet, and serves them the very first “Lord’s Supper,” and then gives them One Commandment: “Love One Another.”

Libraries all over the world are filled with books about religion, approaching the subject from every possible angle. Many require special training to understand them. One might think, then, that becoming a Christian is a very complicated and difficult subject.

When Jesus taught, he told stories that everyone could understand. And when He had one great final commandment to give to His followers, it turned out to be very simple: “Love one another.”

Jesus was asked one day, “What is the greatest commandment?” and he replied “Love God.” And then He added a second commandment, “Love your neighbor.”

To someone inquiring about the Christian faith, we might say, accept Christ as Savior, then live the Christian life by giving the Holy Spirit control of your mind and heart. That about covers it all. It can be stated even more simply: “Love God. Love each other.”

When we give thanks to the Lord, let us always remember to thank Him for our church family — our fellow Christians who are our brothers and sisters in Christ.

We repeat a song from a previous blog today, with a different group of singers, “The Friends Quartet:”

LOVING GOD, LOVING EACH OTHER
Words & Music by Bill & Gloria Gaither
1997

Loving God, loving each other
making music with my friends
Loving God, loving each other
and the story never ends

They pushed back from the table to listen to His words
His secret plans before He had to go
It’s not complicated; don’t need a lot of rules
This is all you need to know

It’s loving God, loving each other
making music with my friends
Loving God, loving each other
and the story never ends

We tend to make it harder build steeples out of stone
fill books with explanations of the way
but if we stop and listen and break a little bread
we would hear the master say

Loving God, loving each other
making music with my friends
Loving God, loving each other
and the story never ends.
