Fill My Cup, Lord

Theme this week: Songs of Precious Salvation

September 28, 2021 (Tuesday)

Yesterday’s blog was about free flowing, living water that was offered to the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well.

Jesus, however, was not offering her water at all, but life — a much better life in Christ than the sad and lonely life she had. His offer to her is also made to you and me, to all the people of this world. Spiritual water is being offered by our Lord to spiritually thirsty people.

On another occasion Jesus spoke of Bread offered to hungry people. It was spiritual bread of which He spoke and the hunger it satisfies is spiritual. “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 4:35 NKJV).

The Bread of Life and Water of Life are metaphors for Jesus Himself. He is the source of our spiritual life. We must remember that it was He who said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6). He is our Everything!

FILL MY CUP, LORD
Author: Richard Blanchard
1959

Like the woman at the well I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy;
And then I heard my Savior speaking:
“Draw from my well that never shall run dry”.

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;
Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more–
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!

There are millions in this world who are craving
The pleasures earthly things afford;
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;
Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more–
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!

So, my brother, if the things this world gave you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you,
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray:

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;
Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more–
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!
