One Day at a Time

A popular gospel song by Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson a few years back pleads, “One day at a time, sweet Jesus, that’s all I’m asking from you..”
Ironically, that’s what Jesus is asking from us. Here’s what He says: “Don’t worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today” (Matthew 6:34 NIV).
Just before that, he said, “Don’t worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?” Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these. But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well” (Matthew 6:31-33 NIV).
Some of you who are reading this today are eager to give your own personal testimonies that what Jesus said is amazingly true in your own lives. You put the Lord first in your lives, and Jesus has kept His promise to supply all your needs. I join you in being willing to tell the world that Jesus has kept his promises and we have faith to believe He will continue to do so until the end.

I love the song quoted at the beginning of this blog, because it suggests to people struggling with life that the Lord can help. I believe Jesus taught us that when we stop worrying, learn to trust Him, put Him first in our lives, then He does His part and takes care of us, one day at a time. No need for us to plead with Him to be with us; He’s already promised that. When we do our part, He does His.
