The previous two blogs have been about revival meetings conducted by churches. As was noted in the blogs, such meetings are not as popular as they once were, most likely because of the hectic pace of life in general as a result of living in a changed world. The pace of change has not slowed; it has become more rapid.
Many Christians long for a return to the days of spiritual awakenings among the general population, such as we have had from time to time over the past 300 years or so. Others see a turning away from institutional Christianity to personal spirituality in which people seem to have developed beliefs of their own concerning the soul, Heaven and Hell, a moral life, etc.
Many of us know little about the great spiritual awakenings of the past. What we do know is that life without God is a characteristic of our times. So we long for people to turn to God as the source of their meaning in life. We want the world to sing with us, “My faith looks up to Thee.” For want of a new and possibly better world, we crave a spiritual awakening much like those of the last three centuries, when many people turned to God for comfort and strength. “Revive us again; fill each heart with Thy love. May each soul be rekindled with fire from above.”

REVIVE US AGAIN
Words, William P. Mackay, 1863
Music, John J. Husband, 1815
We praise Thee, O God!
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus Who died,
And is now gone above.
Refrain:
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.
We praise Thee, O God!
For Thy Spirit of light,
Who hath shown us our Savior,
And scattered our night
Refrain
.
All glory and praise
To the Lamb that was slain,
Who hath borne all our sins,
And hath cleansed every stain.
Refrain
All glory and praise
To the God of all grace,
Who hast brought us, and sought us,
And guided our ways.
Refrain
Revive us again;
Fill each heart with Thy love;
May each soul be rekindled
With fire from above.
Refrain
