The First Day of the Week

Isn’t it strange how each day of the week has its own “personality?”
Seems each day arouses special feelings when we wake up in the morning and realize it’s Monday, Wednesday, Friday, etc.
Monday is called, “Blue Monday.” I wonder why? Ask all those drivers on their way to work.
Wednesday is called “hump day,” meaning if you get through the day, you’re over the hump in the work week. You’ve made it through 3 of the 5 work days.
TGIF: Thank God It’s Friday. A lot of people today know exactly what that means. When living in in Houston, I learned that Friday afternoon brings a glut of traffic with people leaving work early. headed for “someplace else” (any place will do).
How do you feel on Sunday morning? Not everyone feels good. I recall the song, “Sunday Morning Sidewalk,” where the singer bemoans the rising sun and wishes he was “stoned,” because he feels so alone.
I know a little bit about that. When I was a kid, my parents slept until noon because they were “sleeping it off.” So I sat in front of the big old living room radio with the “funny papers” and listened to the voice from KTRH reading them to me. That was Sunday morning at our house back then. Sad and lonely.
But now Sunday is a different day for me. And for millions of others who go to church and worship the Lord on that day.

I propose a new slogan: TGIS (Thank God It’s Sunday). The value of Bible Study, Prayer, Singing, Giving, Fellowship, etc. with others on the Lord’s Day cannot be overstated. Sunday worship makes a difference for us every day afterwards for the rest of the week. And then it’s Sunday again. Thank you, Lord.
Sunday will be a great day for worship. See you in church?

“So let’s do it–full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:22-25 MSG).
