It’s cold in Rockport. The extremes in temperature in the U.S.A. today are -27° in Alaska and 73° in Florida. The difference? 100°. Rockport is somewhere in between. Hopefully we can get through the winter without a freeze here.
Many think that people get depressed more easily in the winter months. We even have a name for this: Seasonal Affective Disorder, or, would you believe it, SAD? One of the principal causes seems to be lack of exposure to sunshine. Whenever the sun peeks through, we should get outside and let its healing rays touch us.
The first thing that God created was light. It was basic to all of creation. Jesus startled his hearers by proclaiming, “I am the light of the world!” He continued, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12 NIV).
When Christ comes into our hearts, he brightens our lives, and makes it possible for us to light the way for others. “..you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light!” (Ephesians 5:8 NIV). “..let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16 NIV).
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine,
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine!
