The Book of Isaiah is one of the best-loved books in the Bible. It has been called, “the Gospel of Isaiah” and “the Romans of the Old Testament.” It contains more references to the Messiah than any other Old Testament book. It reveals the way of salvation from sin, and is quoted seventeen times by the Apostle Paul in Romans.
The chapters of the book are easily divided into two groups: 1-39 and 40-66. The first 39 chapters refer to the reigns of Uzziah and Jotham in Judah, as well as rulers of other kingdoms. They all shall suffer because of their idolatry and sin. The second section of 27 chapters offers consolation, and hope of return from exile for Judah. The book is filled with prophecies regarding literal history of Old Testament times as well as spiritual and Messianic prophecies woven into the prophetic fabric.
Believers love the book of Isaiah because it offers hope.
Isaiah – Devotional thoughts
sawlord.jpgIsaiah 6 presents Isaiah’s vision following the death of King Uzziah. It shows us that a clear vision of God in His majesty also enables us to see ourselves in need of God’s grace and enables us to hear the clear call of God upon our lives.
wounded.jpgIsaiah 52:13-53:12 pictures the “Suffering Servant” which is believed by Christians to be a description of the atoning death of Jesus on the cross. One gets the feeling he has somehow allowed the pages of his bible to fall open in the New Testament as he reads these sacred words.
fearnot.jpgWe have been strengthened and encouraged often by Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (NIV).
