Charles Monroe Sheldon wrote a book entitled, “In His Steps,” in 1896. It urged people to ask the question, “What Would Jesus Do?,” when making decisions. It was an important and influential book.
I was looking up related information and discovered that the book is on the internet in its entirety, there for the reading. No special device is required to read it. It’s there online in an easily readable format. In case you are interested, you can find it by clicking here.
The book became a best seller, second only to the Bible. Fifty years after its first publication, it was assigned reading in high school for our dear friend, Ann Pogue (last name Maurer at the time).
The “What Would Jesus Do?” movement got its second wind in recent decades, and little bracelets imprinted with “WWJD” were everywhere to be seen, especially among young people.
What is your guide when making moral decisions? Do you have any guidance in the matter? For some this whole idea is a brand new concept. The moral lapses that resulted in the collapse of our economy in recent years makes such questions relevant to where the general public lives day by day. “Ethics” is not stale philosophy filed away in a dusty history book; it describes “right and wrong” in matters that matter.
