..good things and bad things..

Thankful and Prayerful

OCTOBER 29, 2007 (MONDAY) – The weather in Rockport, Texas was very pleasant this past week, with clear skies, light winds, lower humidity and moderate temperatures — 50’s at night and 70’s during the day. It’s hard to imagine better weather. We are thankful for it.
While we were enjoying good weather, residents of Southern California were experiencing terrible conditions, with hurricane-force winds, horrible wildfires, and tragic loss of life and property. Many of us have friends and relatives in those areas. My grand daughter moved to San Diego with her U.S. Navy husband in June. They evacuated like many others, but were soon able to return to their apartment. We are thankful for that, but our hearts go out to the many people there who are suffering loss.
At any given moment, around the world, good things and bad things are happening. The world has always been like that, but in the past we were not as much aware of what was happening in other places. Today, with our sophisticated technology, we are able to see and hear, in living color, many tragedies as they happen. Time was when news did not travel so fast. For example, the final major battle of the War of 1812 (the Battle of New Orleans) was fought 15 days after diplomats had ended the war with a treaty. News traveled slowly in those days.
Such a loss of communication between nations will not very likely happen again. Today we know very well what is happening in strategic locations around the world. We have eyes and ears in the sky, and we’re looking and listening. Somewhere people are looking at us through their orbiting cameras, and listening to us as well.
Someone asked, “What would it be like to be God for a while, hearing all the cries for help around the world, simultaneously, all the time?” I don’t think I would last a complete minute under those circumstances. God sees it all. He hears it all. He knows it all. And He cares. He cares about His world and He cares about you. Don’t ever forget that.
