The God of All Comfort


OCTOBER 28, 2007 (SUNDAY) – Here’s the sermon outline for today’s morning sermon at First Baptist Church, Rockport.

THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT                    2 CORINTHIANS 1:1-11
INTRODUCTION:   We may sometimes feel defeat and despair,
 but we find comfort in the Lord.
  I. THE LORD KNOWS WHEN WE SUFFER (1:8-10)
      1. The Lord allows us to suffer (1:5a)
          “the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives”
      2. The Lord knows we suffer
          (Presumed throughout these verses)
      3. The Lord cares when we suffer (1:8b)
          “(pressured) far beyond our ability to endure”

II. THE LORD PROVIDES GRACE WHEN WE SUFFER (1:11)

      1. The Lord comforts us (1:3)
           “Father of compassion/God of all comfort”
      2. The Lord comforts us through others (1:4)
          “comforts us so that we can comfort others”
      3. The Lord comforts us forever (1:10b)
           “He will continue to deliver us”

III. THE LORD USES US AS WE SUFFER (1:3-7, 11)

      1. The Lord enables us to comfort others (1:4)
          “we can comfort those in any trouble”
      2. The Lord enables us to comfort kindly (1:3-7)
          (Feel the love in Paul’s words to them)
      3. The Lord enables us to accept comfort (1:11b)
          “gracious favor granted us in answer to prayers”

CONCLUSION:
   We find comfort and help through faith in the
Lord Jesus Christ.  (vs 5 through Christ our comfort overflows).
