In Between

Here we are, living that “in between” week again — between Christmas and the New Year. We’re thinking about what “was” and what “shall be.” We’re “in between.”
If you are a football fan, you know that there are several professional teams that will decide Sunday if they shall be described on Monday as “was” or “shall be.” All of the games that decide the final roster of the playoff teams will be played on Sunday. That calls for a crowded schedule of watching games and no doubt a few fans will import extra TV’s so that they can watch them all.
Some future archeologist may uncover the mounds settled over the great stadiums of our day and conclude that these were our temples and a football symbolized our deity. Be that as it may, Hank Williams, Jr. needs to be re-enlisted to kick off the many games scheduled for Sunday: “Are you ready for some football?”
So, today we are “in-between” the regular season and the playoffs, but by Monday the regular season will be spoken of as “was.” The Playoffs will be scheduled.
And so, these three remain: “Dove season,” “Deer season,” and “The Playoffs.” When these seasons end each year, the husbands of this land return.
