A financial expert suggests some financial guidelines to follow if you are planning on retirement soon. I am now in my 18th year of retirement and checked my personal situation against the expert’s ideas.
- Have a plan for income. (I did OK on this; I had a plan)
- Have a plan for spending. (My plan was do not spend more than I can afford)
- Retire when eligible for full Social Security benefits. (I did that)
- Invest at least half of your cash in stocks. (No, didn’t do that)
- Don’t retire too early, especially if you plan to keep working some (I’m OK there)
- Plan on living long. (I did not really plan on it, but I’m still around)
- Plan for health care (I give myself a “C” on this)
If someone who is planning on retiring relatively soon is reading this, perhaps they can discover some ideas in this blog that may help in planning.
A Christian should always remind himself of God’s faithful care (“My God shall supply all your needs,” Philippians 4:13). Stewardship involves wise planning also.
For those interested: my sneezing gave way to coughing yesterday. Sounds like a cold, but not all the symptoms are present. I have not had a cold for three years at least.
