The song, “Jingle Bells,” goes with Christmas like coffee and donuts, ying and yang, Mr & Mrs, etc. etc. But its orgins are sort of up for grabs. It is a fact that a fellow named Pierpont wrote it, but the facts surrounding its writing are no longer crystal clear, as historians investigate. The song dates back to the 1850s.
Its original title was “One horse open sleigh,” which hints at suggesting why it was written. Sleigh rides are common in certain parts of the country, and by all accounts, very enjoyable. The song, “Jingle Bells,” is a jolly song that always brings smiles to faces as it is sung.
It’s a song about fun in the snow, and not particularly about Christmas. In fact, some researchers are certain that it made its appearance in connection with Thanksgiving.
But, here we are, Jingle Bells is here to stay, and it usually is sung at Christmas time.
