August 27, 2013 (Tuesday)
It’s Monday night and the old clock on the wall says it’s bedtime. So I’ve left my favorite chair and am on the way to the bedroom. However, on the way I must pass the kitchen. Suddenly I am stricken with bedtime hunger, and so I stop in the kitchen and look for “a little something” to tide me over until morning.
Ah, there it is, everyone’s favorite, a big jar of creamy peanut butter. And right next to it is nature’s finest treat, enjoyed by bears and humans alike, pure honey. I open a cabinet, pull out a little bowl and a big spoon. I dip a spoonful of peanut butter and empty it into the bowl, immediately adding a generous pouring of golden honey. I then perform my daily exercise by vigorously stirring the two ingredients together. I open the refrigerator door and peruse its contents. Aha: chocolate syrup. I remove it from its hiding place on a cold shelf and pour it over the newly-created peanut butter-honey solution. I replace the syrup and as the refrigerator door closes I spy a container of non-dairy creamy tasting topping. With my big spoon I generously top the chocolate covered peanut butter and honey. I turn quickly toward the counter top where I keep the pecans, walnuts, almonds, etc. Aw, nuts. I’m out of those.
So, I take my bowl in hand, return to the comfy chair, to listen to the nightly news, slowly partaking of my bedtime snack. What a treat, and only 27,532 calories. Don’t tell me I don’t know how to have a good time.
Afterwards, I wish myself “sweet dreams,” and retire for the night, thankful that I am a direct descendant of those kids in the poem who fell asleep with “visions of sugar plums” dancing in their heads. Yum, yum.
