Think About It

“Thought is action in rehearsal”–Sigmund Freud

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things” (Philippians 4:8 NIV). With this advice, Paul began the concluding remarks of his letter to the Christians at Philippi.
One word summarizes his sentence: “Think!”
In industrial plants throughout the nation, this one word was once posted in every conspicuous place, reminding the workers of its importance. The primary concern was safety.
Perhaps our spiritual safety is at stake in our thoughts. Let us control them as the great Apostle suggested.
What should we think about? What’s right, pure, lovely, admirable, or anything else that is excellent or praiseworthy. In other words, positive thoughts.
Someone has written:

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

Rona Barrett, a television columnist, always concluded her segment with the words, “Keep thinkin’ those good thoughts.” Paul would agree. Do you?
