The Interim is Over

July 9, 2012 (Monday)
”picYesterday was a GLAD DAY and a SAD DAY. It may have been the last day of my interim pastorate at Bethel Baptist Church in Ingleside. It was a glad day for the church because they are about to get a new pastor and a new start toward a great future. It was also a glad day for me because I may have completed the task of seeing the church through the interim period. It was a sad day for me, however, because I probably won’t be preaching any more at the Bethel Baptist Church. Like John the Baptist, whose job assignment was to prepare the way for Jesus, my job assignment was to prepare the way for the new pastor. I am thankful to have had this marvelous opportunity to serve the Lord and this wonderful church. Thank you, Lord. I’m not completely sure about the beginning date for the new pastor’s work, so this paragraph contains some language denoting uncertainty. I will know for sure after next weekend.
Actually, I was asked by the church to become the Interim Pastor only after Brother Mack Caffey, the original Interim Pastor, became ill and was unable to continue his work with the church. Brother Caffey has had an illness that has put him in the hospital several times, and is there now, as I write this. Please pray for him and his family.
The church will be hearing Brother Bob Upchurch in view of a call as pastor next weekend. If all goes as expected, the church will call him as pastor and he will accept. He may begin as pastor immediately. That will be worked out between him and the church next weekend. Brother Upchurch has been pastor of Honey Grove Cowboy Church in far North Texas for seven years. I pray for him and his family and wish him great success in this new relationship with the Bethel Baptist Church of Ingleside.
