HOLY WEEK THROUGH THE EYES OF JESUS

It’s Sunday again, but a special one.
Today we ride into Jerusalem.
Hear the people shouting, “Hosanna!”
They cry out for salvation.
In Bethany Sunday night
In Jerusalem on Monday, but today I’m not just looking–
I’m doing. I’m cleansing the Temple.
Shoo little animals. Away with you.
You don’t belong here. Neither do these merchants.
In Bethany Monday night
Tuesday. The Temple. Sadducees, Scribes and Pharisees–
Their attempts to discredit me amuse the people.
It is they who look foolish. They are angry.
Now they make their plans to kill me.
In Bethany Tuesday night
I’ll stay in Bethany today, Wednesday. But the Rulers are busy
Plotting my death.
One of my own, Judas Iscariot, betrays me.
The die is cast. The plot thickens. They can hardly wait.
In Bethany Wednesday night
My last night with these faithful friends.
Thursday. In Jerusalem for the Passover meal this evening.
All of my disciples are here but Judas leaves us, to collect his wages.
I want them to love one another, and so I teach them to be servants.
I want them to know about salvation; I tell them about my body and blood.
We go to Gethsemane for prayer.
On the way I use the last opportunity to prepare them for what’s coming.
Behold, the Temple guards. And Judas. The kiss of betrayal.
Now to the trials, the mockery and the pain.
Friday. Crucifixion. Great suffering. Sacrificial death.
I am the Son of God. I am the Paschal Lamb.
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Saturday. The Sabbath. My body rests in death.
Tomorrow: Sunday. Resurrection. Life. For all.
