Now a reality

A company in China has built a 30-story building in 15 days. It might be more accurate to say the building was built in a factory and the parts were assembled in 15 days. The company has plans to build a 200-story building in the same way in a construction period of 6 months. It will be the second tallest building in the world.
Remember “Tinker Toys?” How about, “Leggo?” There’s a kit on our coffee table here at the house made up of inch-long tubes and ball bearings (at least that what they look like). The parts are magnetic and one’s imagination is the only limit in putting the parts together like Tinker Toys or Leggos. The idea behind the toys is piecing together ready-made parts. That’s the same idea for the new buildings in China.
There’s a hotel on the Corpus Christi bayfront that was brought in on trucks and the rooms were put together in the same way as the toys above. The rooms were furnished and the beds were made already when they were put together in what looks like about a twelve-story building. So perhaps we in the USA are not that far behind China. The hotel in Corpus was built a number of years ago.
Pre-fab is not a new idea. The walls of the two-story building at the old First Baptist Church site in Rockport were brought in ready-made on trucks and assembled on site. That was in 1977, 34 years ago. Many such buildings can be found all over the country.
One must admit, however, that the idea of constructing a skyscraper in 15 days is fascinating, to say the least.
