The last day of the month
February 28, 2011 (Monday)
A Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme speaks of this 28th day of February, the last day of the month.
April, June and November;
February has twenty eight alone
All the rest have thirty-one
Except in Leap Year, that’s the time
When February’s Days are twenty-nine
Why are there only 28 days in February (29 in Leap Year)? It’s a long story, not worth telling. Besides, I don’t understand it all myself. Let’s just say the ancient Romans did it.
Those who get paid by the month get a good deal in February. Their earnings are 10% more per day in February than in January. Betcha never thought about being thankful for the extra pay each day in February. See? Count your many blessings and it will surprise you, just like the song says.
Anyway, tomorrow will be the first day of March, but Easter is still out there in the future (April 24), two months from now. How is the date of Easter determined? Well, the moon gets full…h-m-m…uh…and the Vernal Equinox..er, ah..Oh, just forget it. Or go look it up if you really want to know.*

*Just kidding. Easter Sunday is the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox.
