The Water of Life

Have you tasted it?

”picI looked out the window of the plane as we flew over the very dry sections of the western United States. The earth under us was brown. It was a desert. From our seven-mile high perch in the air, we could see strands of green, like long snakes lying on the ground. Of course, we were looking at rivers, their banks covered with trees that overshadowed them, drawing life from the water. Every once in a while, we could see a farm, made green by water pumped from a river. In some places, there were perfect circles of color, which were plants given life by an irrigation system that sprayed life-giving water as it went round and round. Makes me think of a few Scripture verses about water. Here are a few:
Psalm 1:3 NIV – “..like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither..”
Psalm 42:1-2a NIV – “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God..”
John 4:14 NIV (Jesus to the woman at the well) – “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
We know how good water tastes when we are really thirsty. We have a spiritual thirst also, and Jesus satisfies that thirst when we believe in Him and invite Him into our hearts by faith.
Jesus went to Samaria on purpose, just to talk with that woman, whose life was a “disaster area” but who was a human being in need of forgiveness and a second chance. When she understood that she could have both in Christ, she ran back into the city to let everyone know about Jesus.
Have you tasted the “Water of Life?”
