I took a little test online yesterday to find out what kind of ice cream I am.
Here was the verdict: “Neopolitan!”
It said I’m not satisfied with just one flavor. My choice of ice cream reflects the idea that variety is the spice of life.
I like Neopolitan ice cream. Never thought of it as my favorite, though. Yet I suppose the diagnosis is correct, because I find myself compelled in most circumstances to see situations from almost all points of view. This is a trait that is probably good for counselors, but not very good for jobs where decisions have to be made. So how did I last so long as a leader, if it’s hard for me to make decisions? I don’t know–your guess is as good as mine.
I do think, however, that Neopolitan thinking is a good thing. It’s good to try to see things from the other person’s point of view. The majority of people seem to have moved away from the center of almost everything. In my opinion, most of us are becoming extreme in our views. Perhaps the situation is an inevitable result of the flow of history in our time. Nevertheless, whatever the public in general may think, I believe I am to be obedient to Christ first of all in all of my thinking. This may put me at odds with conservatives at times and with liberals at other times, but Christ is not the captive of politics and I want to follow Him.
