complete with memories

As I thought about yesterday’s blog and the stores that used to exist on Fort Worth’s downtown Main Street, along with the stuff we bought there, I got to looking around the house here, asking myself where these things came from. The answer is, “here and there.”
The master bedroom has a king sized bed and a beautiful, spacious mirrored dresser, with a couple of night stands. Those things belonged to Wanda’s mother and father. Wanda wanted them in our house to remind us of her parents.
In another bedroom is a matched bedroom suite, consisting of a bed, nightstand, dresser with mirrors, and a chest of drawers. Along with a dining room suite, we purchased these at wholesale. Wanda had an uncle in the furniture business and he made arrangements for us to purchase this furniture from a Dallas firm, located by railroad tracks not far from the book depository where Lee Harvey Oswald shot the president in 1963. We bought the furniture before all that happened. Boy, did we ever save a lot of money on those things.
Around the kitchen bar is a set of bar stools, which Wanda got with S & H Green Stamps. They wore out a long time ago, but we are still using them.
We have a beautiful dining room table and a lovely china cabinet that we bought from a furniture store in Corpus Christi. We have had many, many wonderful family meals at that table through the years.
A grandfather clock stands against the wall in the living room. It was a Mothers Day gift from me to Wanda about 30 years ago. It no longer runs or chimes, but it’s still a beautiful piece of furniture.
A year or two before she died, Wanda bought some new sofas and chairs. They still seem new to me, although the recliner should be worn out because I make real good use of it.
There’s a lot of other stuff around the house and in the attic and garage. There’s going to be a big garage sale here one of these days, unless some kind of disaster gets rid of these things. If you happen to come to the sale, you can say of anything you find here, “Charles loved that. He just couldn’t turn loose of it.”
